Oia is one of the villages situated on the edge of the caldera and seems like a smaller version of Fira. The city is really beautiful and the mix of buildings is spectacular, but you are not going to find the ugliness and the businesses of the main streets of Fira.
The city is surprisingly large and is crossed by a main pedestrian street. There is a car park at the entrance of the village, where you lcan leave your car and walk to delve into the heart of the city. Inside you will find a lot of craft shops, cafes, bars and shops.
Oia has a great history of artists and therefore there is a wide variety of small galleries to visit. From the central square can be enjoyed Platani church, one of the architectural jewels of the city. Very near here, after a short walk you can find the beach of Armeni.
Walking from the main pedestrian street you can enjoy the view of the island of Thirasia . This place is ideal for enjoying the views of the city with its array of white, blue, orange and pink. You will also to be able to find an old mill. From this area, the sunset view is magnificent. In fact, many tourists make the trip here just to enjoy the sunset. When at last the sun sets out of sight on the horizon, is usually set off a round of applause in appreciation of the spectacle just witnessed.
