The main port of Santorini (Athinios) is located in the western part of the island, in the village of Athinios. This is the port on which arrive the vast majority of ferries to the island. There is another port in Fira , but it’s smaller, and it’s used as a fishing port. This is the port that it is used to go to the volcano.
There are regular ferries from the port of Piraeus in Athens through Greek companies as Blue Star (http://www.bluestarferries.com) and Hellenic Seaways (http://www.hellenicseaways.gr). It is very important to note that there are two types of ferries: regular and fast. The difference between them is that the route between Piraeus and Santorini using regular one is 8.5 hours meanwhile rapid one is 5.30. Of course, the faster is more expensive, but greatly reduces travel time.
Of course there are ferry connections between Santorini and the Cyclades islands, just search in Blue Star (http://www.bluestarferries.com) or Hellenic Seaways (http://www.hellenicseaways.gr), keeping in mind that in summer period there are many more connections than in spring or autumn. Be careful!
There are many other companies that can be used to travel between the islands: Minoan Lines, Superfast Ferries, Anek Lines, Endeavor Lines, European Lines, Marmara Lines and Nel Lines. All of them can be found at the following website: http://www.ferries.gr
There is no need to pay any fee when you enter the island by boat or ferry, but you have to pay a small fee (1.5 €) when you leave the island by ferry.
Travelling from the port:
Keep in mind that many hotels in Santorini offer free transportation from the airport if previously agreed with them.
Local bus
On the outside of the port you will find KTEL local bus company (http://www.ktel-santorini.gr) that can take you to most surrounding towns. Buses run every 30 minutes during the summer and every hour during the winter. Keep in mind that public buses are green, being the rest of the colors from tourist buses. Tickets can be purchased from the bus driver once on board and costs 2 €. If you are travelling to another site different from Fira or Monolithos, take a look at the KTEL bus routes, since you will probably have to take another bus in Fira .
The buses are coordinated with the ferries, so that whenever comes a ferry, there are always some buses waiting for the passengers, even at night.
Here you can see online the bus routes that travel from the port:
Fira – Athinios: http://www.ktel-santorini.gr/flash/port.html
Kamari – Athinios: http://www.ktel-santorini.gr/flash/k_kamari.html

As for the bus schedules, confirm on the island or on the website of KTEL (http://www.ktel-santorini.gr).
Taxi
Taxis are available outside of the airport. However, during the summer months can be quite difficult to find a cab. A trip to Oia can be about 25 €, and Fira , between 10-15 €. These prices are per trip, not per person. As a council, try to agree the price with the driver before departing, remember you are a tourist!
